Pavilion 15-g207ax
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

First of all, don't mistake the stutter with being slow while booting.
I have a SSD as my primary hard drive so it used to boot up to desktop within 5-7 seconds. But since yesterday everything has been abnormal at the booting side.
When I hit the power button it takes 5 seconds to lit up the display  (it would usually take 1-2 seconds before) and then the HP logo (UEFI boot) comes and stays for about 5-10 seconds (which would usually stay for 2-3 seconds). And the moment it leaves the HP logo and proceeds to complete the boot, everything is normal again. There is no issues post booting, It's the same very fast notebook as I had earlier, no issue while opening programs or multitasking or even gaming. Everything is smooth post boot.
Now what I have noticed is

  1. The esc to pause start up takes 10 seconds to show extra menu.
  2. Tried to go into BIOS (F10) and but it stutters there.
  3. F2 system diagnostic is super stuttery as well Its responsiveness is like less than 1 FPS.
  4. I ran memory check test and processor memory check failed and it gave me a serial number.
  5. The esc menu and its content stutters. You gotta understand this 😞
  6. The OS boot (hp logo) is partially affected by the stutter, it's like 1/2 of it stutters and the latter part is smoother or normal.

Now what I was doing before all this happened:

  1. I was working on Adobe Premiere Pro and used warp stabilizer to stabilize a video and it took 10 minutes or so. And the processor usage was at 97% for the most time.

Now what I have tried:

  1. Tried flashing the updated/current BIOS from the HP drivers website. It didn't work.
  2. Tried removing RAM(8GB) and changed it with the previous 4GB one. No difference.
  3. Tried booting without SSD and HDD. No difference with the esc menu.

What I am going to try:

  1. Rollback the BIOS to one version behind. *tried, flashed F.47 ( I had the file downloaded from HP driver website with me). No changes to the esc menu.
  2. Re-install the windows ? (I don't think I will try this until somebody here suggests me to do so.)

My brain is suggesting that it has something to do with CPU cache memory defaulting? I don't know, never saw anything like this before.

My Full config and required details:

CPU: AMD A8-6410 with R5 graphics

RAM: 8GB (Samsung) 800Mhz DDR3

SSD(primary hard drive): WD Green 120 GB 2nd gen.

DVD: replaced it with SATA slot: the stock HGST 500 GB hard disk.

BIOS: F.48 (AMD processor version)

Any replaced or repair item in laptop: No, everything is stock except the DVD slot.

Windows Installed: Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit (I installed it myself as I have experience in installing and debugging).

Hi

It does come back as a battery failure for your  HP Notebook - 15-g207ax.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-15-g200-notebook-pc-series/7486438/model/7643147

There was a Power Cord recall in 2016 but no signs of a Battery Recall.

Therefore I can only suggest a replacement battery.

Component Test : FAILED

Hi

The failure is 4 x 6 characters.

BUT if the CPU is flagged as failed, then it is quite a serious problem.

It could not be a processor/CPU related problem. I mentioned that I have no problem post boot up. I game and there is not a single frame drop compared to what I used to get. Only that laptop boot is abnormal. One more thing I did was that I downloaded and ran the UEFI diagnostics and here are the results. (My battery is dead for more than 6 months now and I have to plug-in in order to use my laptop.)

Just in case if you need to see CPU stress test.

I know that my battery is faulty and it needs to be replaced but it has been like this for more than 6 months now.
so I don't think that my laptop's boot /menu stuttering is caused by the battery.

OK.

Beyond me, sorry.

I didn't want to disrespect you in anyway. I am sorry
