I must have deleted an important file. The Hp logon screen option has disappeared. The laptop goes to keyboard country and recovery mode. None of the recovery options work how do I reset the laptop to get to Win 10?

Sorted. Initially I downloaded the wrong windows10 setup from Microsoft. It was a 64bit laptop after all. This setup went into a loop overnight. After switching the laptop off and using F11(I think as I hit every f button) I was pleased to see a RESET THIS PC option rather than the previous options that all failed. I pursued this option and the laptop returned to factory setting. I am indebted to you for your suggestions.

The only suggestion I can offer other than clean installing W10 would be to see if your notebook is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool.
Use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC on the new SSD.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.
HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Microsoft Store Apps
Since you have to use the utility on another PC, you will need to enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately I have some issues. The HP laptop is 32 bit so cloud recovery is not an option. I therefore downloaded windows10 from Microsoft onto a USB stick. I changed the BIOS order and then rebooted. The laptop still goes to HP recovery which we know doesn't work. How do I make it boot from the USB stick? Is there HP security somewhere stopping an option other than HP recovery mode?

You're very welcome.
To boot from the USB flash drive, have it in the PC's USB port.
Turn on or restart the PC.
Immediately tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the F9 boot options menu and from that, select the USB flash drive with Windows on it and press the Enter key.
The PC should then boot from the USB flash drive.
