@Lisa429, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A blinking power light typically indicates a hardware or firmware issue. Here are some steps to diagnose and potentially fix the problem:

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect the power adapter.
  2. Remove the battery (if it’s removable).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power adapter without the battery (if removable) and try turning it on.

Check the Blink Pattern

HP laptops use blink codes to indicate specific hardware failures. Count how many times the power light blinks in a row and if there’s a pause. Let me know the pattern so I can interpret the error.

Test with a Different Charger

  • Try using a different compatible charger or a different power outlet.
  • If the charging port feels loose or the cable is damaged, that could be the issue.

Check for Display Issues

  • Connect an external monitor to see if the laptop is turning on but not displaying.
  • Try pressing Caps Lock—if the light responds, your laptop might be on but with a display issue.

BIOS Recovery (If Applicable)

If you recently updated the BIOS or suspect corruption:

  1. Hold Win + B, then press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds.
  2. Release the power button but keep holding Win + B until you hear a beep or see the BIOS recovery screen.

Check for Overheating or Internal Issues

If your laptop was overheating before this issue, it might have shut down due to thermal issues. Let it cool for a while and try again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

@Lisa429, Thank you for your response.

The one long white blink that repeats on an HP laptop typically indicates a power failure or system board issue. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot further:

Hard Reset Again (Try Different Combinations)

Since it didn’t work the first time, try this:

  1. Remove all external devices (USB drives, peripherals, external monitors).
  2. Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30-60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect only the charger (without the battery) and try to power it on.

Check the Power Adapter & Battery

  • If you have access to another compatible HP charger, try using it.
  • If the battery is removable, remove it and try running the laptop only on AC power.
  • If the charging port or charger is loose/damaged, that could be the issue.

Perform BIOS Recovery (if applicable)

If your laptop was updating or had a BIOS-related issue, try:

  • Hold Win + B and then press and hold the power button for 3-5 seconds.
  • Release the power button (but keep holding Win + B) until you hear beeps or see the BIOS recovery screen.

Check RAM & Reseat Components (For Advanced Users)

If you're comfortable opening the laptop:

  • Reseat the RAM – remove and reinsert it properly.
  • Check for dust buildup – overheating components can cause failures.
  • Try booting with one RAM stick at a time (if there are two).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
