Hi @Mayu27,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If your HP Pavilion Plus 14-inch is not booting from a USB drive even after disabling Secure Boot, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify the Bootable USB Drive

Check USB Creation:

  • Ensure that the USB drive is properly created as a bootable device. Use tools like Rufus or the Windows Media Creation Tool for Windows, or balenaEtcher for other operating systems.

Test the USB Drive:

  • Test the USB drive on another computer to confirm that it boots correctly.

2. Verify USB Port and Drive

Try Different Ports:

  • Plug the USB drive into a different USB port on the laptop. Sometimes, certain ports (especially USB 3.0) might have issues or be disabled.

Check for Physical Issues:

  • Inspect the USB drive for any physical damage or defects. Also, check the USB ports on your laptop for any visible issues.

3. Change Boot Order in BIOS/UEFI

Access BIOS/UEFI:

  • Restart your laptop and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter BIOS/UEFI settings.

Change Boot Priority:

  • Navigate to the Boot menu and ensure that the USB drive is listed as the first boot device. You may need to move it up in the boot order list.

Enable Legacy Boot (if needed):

  • If your USB drive is not recognized, try enabling Legacy Boot or CSM (Compatibility Support Module) in the BIOS settings, if available.

Save and Exit:

  • Save the changes and exit BIOS/UEFI. Your laptop should reboot, and it should attempt to boot from the USB drive.

4. Check for BIOS/UEFI Update

Update BIOS:

  • Check the HP support website for any BIOS updates available for your model. Updating the BIOS can resolve compatibility issues with bootable devices.

Install BIOS Update:

  • Follow the instructions on the HP support website to update the BIOS. Be cautious and ensure the update is done correctly to avoid any issues.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @Mayu27,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Check USB Compatibility

USB Drive Format:

  • Ensure the USB drive is formatted correctly (typically FAT32 for UEFI boot). Some systems may not recognize USB drives formatted with NTFS or exFAT.

Try a Different USB Drive:

  • If possible, try using a different USB drive. Some drives may have compatibility issues.

6. Disable Fast Boot

Access BIOS/UEFI:

  • Re-enter BIOS/UEFI settings.

Disable Fast Boot:

  • Look for the Fast Boot option and disable it. Fast Boot can sometimes skip the detection of external devices.

Save and Exit:

  • Save changes and exit BIOS/UEFI.

7. Check for Hardware Issues

Inspect for Damage:

  • Ensure that there are no hardware issues with the laptop’s USB ports. Physical damage or internal hardware problems can affect USB functionality.

Test with Other Devices:

  • Test other bootable devices (e.g., a different USB drive or an external hard drive) to see if the issue is specific to the USB drive or the laptop’s ports.

8. Perform a Hard Reset

Power Down:

  • Completely power off the laptop.

Remove Power Sources:

  • Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if applicable).

Press and Hold Power Button:

  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.

Reconnect and Restart:

  • Reconnect the AC adapter and battery, then power on the laptop and try booting from the USB drive again.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve issues related to booting from a USB drive on your HP Pavilion Plus 14 inch laptop. If the problem persists despite all these troubleshooting steps, there may be an underlying hardware issue, and contacting HP Phone Support for further assistance may be necessary.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
