HP Notebook - 15-db0004dx
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP  Notebook - 15-db0004dx .

According to the manual, it has an entry about available storage listing pci3 and NVMe. I do have a slot and a standoff on the motherboard.

What happens is baffling.

I install the NVMe (I have tried four or five different brands with the same result) and it is not recognized in the infamous InsydeH20 UEFI or "HP setup utility." After turning off the machine and turning it back on, it is recognized and allows me to load windows.

After performing all the necessary updates, and enjoying the laptop's new performance, I shut off the machine.

Now, if I turn the machine on right after shutdown, the machine boots fine. If I wait for 15 or more minutes, and then turn it on, I get the black screen with "hard drive not found."

If I hard reset (turning the machine off with the switch) the boot process is restored.

However, If I turn it off and wait for 15 minutes again, I get the same issue with the black screen.

Any help you can provide would help...I'm baffled.

Hi @nortrek99,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing black screen issues with your HP  Notebook - 15-db0004dx.

Please follow the steps listed below for BIOS recovery:

1. Turn off the computer and keep the power adapter plugged in.

2. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds.

3. Release the Power button but continue pressing the Windows and B keys. You might hear a series of beeps.

4. The HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the recovery begins automatically. Follow any on-screen prompts to continue the start up to complete the recovery.
