Hi:

My Envy 15t-j100 system has stopped performing the "sleep" function properly. The first sleep action after a boot the system is fine and the PC sleeps. I wake it and if sleep is attempted again before a shutdown it always hangs. I have read this is an ACPI issue and may be fixed by loading the latest/last BIOS.  I desperately need to try the SoftPac with the F.72 BIOS for Board ID 1962.  It currently has the F.67 bios from 2016.  I will give my email if you need it. Please send the SP file from archives so I can keep using my pc.

Thank You,
Tom

More Detail:

I own an HP Envy 15t‑j100 notebook with System Board ID 1962 and KBC version 93.53.
The BIOS is currently F.67, and I need the archived BIOS update F.72 Rev.A (SoftPaq sp88646.exe) that contains the 1962C.bin payload.

Could you please provide a direct download link or send me the correct package?
I have already tried public mirrors, but they only contain 1961/1966 payloads.

Hi @teranz

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can understand how inconvenient it feels when your system hangs after attempting sleep—it interrupts the natural flow of using your PC. You’ve already done a great job identifying the board ID and current BIOS version, which makes it easier to pinpoint the right update.

The BIOS package F.72 Rev.A (SoftPaq sp88646.exe) for the HP Envy 15t‑j100 with board ID 1962 is no longer available for direct download from HP’s public site. The safest way forward is to use HP’s official support portal for your notebook series, where archived BIOS updates are maintained.

Let’s walk through the steps to locate and apply the BIOS update:

Steps to Locate and Update BIOS

Visit the official HP drivers page for your notebook series:
HP ENVY 15-j100 Notebook PC series Software and Driver Downloads

Select your operating system (Windows 10 or Windows 11, depending on what you use).
This ensures the correct BIOS package is displayed.

Expand the BIOS section.
Look for the latest BIOS available for your system board ID (1962). If F.72 Rev.A is listed, download the SoftPaq (sp88646.exe).

Prepare your system before flashing BIOS:

  • Connect the notebook to AC power.
  • Close all applications.
  • Temporarily disable sleep/hibernate during the update.
  • Do not interrupt the process once started.

Run the downloaded SoftPaq and follow the on-screen instructions to update the BIOS.
The system will restart automatically during the process.

Important Notes

  • Archived BIOS files may not always appear under current listings. If F.72 Rev.A does not show, the system will only display the most recent supported BIOS.
  • Never use third-party mirrors for BIOS files, as they may be incomplete or unsafe.
  • Updating BIOS can resolve ACPI-related sleep issues, but also ensure your Windows power settings are aligned (Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced settings).

Additional Resource

For guidance on updating BIOS safely, HP provides a step-by-step document:
HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS

This approach should help you move forward with confidence. If the F.72 package is not listed on the driver page, it means only the latest supported BIOS is available for download.

Hi Hawks_Eye:

Thanks for the BIOS updating info.   Unfortunately the link you sent me to to locate and download my BIOS simply shows a page that says the product is retired and no longer supported, no help.   I have looked at all the mirror websites I could find and I have not located a BIOS update for my #1962 system board.

Would it be possible for you to locate the correct SP file in your archives and post it here or send it to my email or a link directly to it? This really is my last hope to fix the computer.

Thanks!

Tom

Thanks for replying @teranz

I understand how discouraging it feels when you’ve tracked down the exact BIOS version you need, only to find the product page retired and mirrors incomplete.

You’ve already shown great persistence in checking every possible source, and I appreciate the effort you’ve put in.

For your HP Envy 15t‑j100 with board ID 1962, here’s the best way forward:

1. Official HP driver page
The only safe location for BIOS downloads is HP’s support site. For your series, the page is here:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-envy-15-j100-notebook-pc-series/5401194

If F.72 Rev.A (sp88646.exe) is not listed under BIOS, it means that version is no longer available for public download. Only the most recent supported BIOS is displayed.

2. Alternative steps to improve sleep/ACPI behavior
Even if the BIOS update isn’t available, you can still try these adjustments to reduce hangs:

  • In Windows, open Control Panel → Power Options → Change plan settings → Advanced settings.
  • Under Sleep, set “Allow hybrid sleep” to Off.
  • Under PCI Express, set “Link State Power Management” to Off.
  • Restart and test sleep/wake again.

3. Keep system synchronized

  • Ensure the HP App is installed and signed in. This keeps your notebook aligned with any updates that may still be published.
  • Run Windows Update → Optional updates, as these sometimes include firmware or driver packages that improve ACPI handling.

4. Safety reminder
Avoid using third‑party mirror sites for BIOS files. They may contain incomplete payloads or unsafe modifications.

At this stage, if F.72 Rev.A does not appear on the HP driver page, the latest available BIOS for your board ID is F.67. Your persistence in troubleshooting is commendable, and by combining Windows power settings with the latest drivers, you can often stabilize sleep behavior even without a newer BIOS.

Kind regards,
Hawks_Eye
