Hi Chris,

In that case, I would guess that the prefix to your 'System Disabled' code is actually a 'I'- if that's correct:

Hi:

Please recheck the code you posted.

It should only be 8 numbers long.

If it has a small letter 'i' in front of the code, please let me know.

You're right... I suppose there is something that looks like a little 'i' but without the top dot.  The correct number is:

50753665

Thank you for such a quick response as well.  🙂

You're very welcome.

I will have to call in the assistance of someone that has the proprietary program to unlock that code for you, since it has an 'i' in front of the numbers.

Hi, @DavidPK

Can you please work your magic on this?

Thanks,

Paul

@Computer_Doctor

It would be interesting to know a few things.

1- Is this a power-on password that prevents the laptop from booting or pw to enter BIOS?

2-Did the customer for sure forget the pw or is this possibly something he didn't set?

3-A hard drive failure sometimes triggers a sudden prompt for pw so it would be great to get these answers before you use the unlock code provided. Or,if too late let us know if the hdd has failed-common on these WM models it seems.

Computer says 'invalid password' when I put in the number you gave.   Any other suggestions?  I really appreciate you guys taking a stab at it.

1.  Its a password required to enter BIOS setup.

2.  Customer doesn't remember having ever set a BIOS password but indicated he purchased as a 'display model' from Walmart so its reasonable to assume they may have set it and forgot to remove it prior to sale.

3.  We initially thought that a Windows update had crashed the system and that it was causing his problem as we've seen a rash of that lately with one of the recent updates.  He indicated that the system would occassionally 'hang' during bootup to the point that the spinning dots would stop spinning.  We have since confirmed that this is happening intermittently.  We were going to reformat the drive but couldn't get into bios to enable legacy mode.

Hope this gives you guys better insight...

Brother you're a freaking genius!!!   Thanks a million for the professional courtesy.  This will make the man very happy...he thought he was losing his mind to dementia or something.

Best regards to you and thanks again for the insight on the wm models being problematic in this regard.
