Here is the summary of my problem : -
1. I have to press the power button like 15-20 times for my laptop to start.
2. The same is the case to power it off. The power button has to be pressed multiple times.
I ran a HP hardware diagnostic test and it shows battery is okay. Is this a power button contact issue or is the power button fuse dead ? Can there be some other issue ? Also, can it be fixed at home ?

To assist better:
- Was there any recent update on the PC?
- Are all the drivers on HP Support Assistant up to date?
- If not please follow the document to update the drivers: HP PCs - How to Download, Install, and Use HP Support Assistant (Windows)
While you respond to that please try the below steps:
Run the Fast Test (about 4 minutes)
When Windows doesn't start, begin the hardware diagnostics by running the Fast Test. The Fast Test is separated into a 1st pass and 2nd pass, with each pass running multiple tests.
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the f2 key.
- On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
If the diagnostics are not available when using the F2 menu, run the diagnostics from a USB drive. To download the latest version of the diagnostics, go to the HP Hardware Diagnostics website. For instructions, see HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures in Windows 10.
- Click Fast Test > Run once.
While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component is displayed on the screen.
- If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu.

I tried this solution, and it still requires me to press the power button multiple times. The following were the recent events:
1. The was a recent Windows update
2. The laptop passed through the scanner at the security check in an airport. Could this have fried the fuse/battery for the power button?
I am still unsure if this is a hardware or software issue.

Hi! The problem has just gotten worse, now I have to press over 50 times to boot it up. The power button just does not respond. I have updated the BiOS as you have stated earlier. Is it possible that this is a hardware issue
