HP Pavilion Power 15-cb003na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, just received my laptop today brand new, plugged it in the mains, pressed the power key and it does not come on. After waiting a few minutes i tried again and it went to start, the keyboard lit up but switched off after a couple of seconds. It is charging its flashing orange, when i do try and start it without the mains plugged in it won't start at all. Do i have to wait until its fully charged before i can turn it on? i though it should just start with the mains plugged in? any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂

Congratulations on your new HP laptop.

I understand that your HP Pavilion Power - 15-cb003na does not power on. I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

Initially, the battery might have little charge and it may need some time to charge up fully. However, with the charger connected the laptop should power on right away.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

If the laptop still does not power on then disconnect the charger and remove the battery out. Connect only the charger and check if it powers on. Likewise, try to power on the laptop using only the battery (without the charger connected).

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Keep me posted.

Good luck! 🙂

Hi there,

Last week my boyfriend bought me a new HP Laptop for my birthday, and after letting it fully charge overnight I had the same problem.

The charging light was working so I knew it was charging, but the power button wasn't working.

SIMPLE SOLUTION: There's a switch somewhere on the device that locks it so it you don't accidentally pressed any buttons or anything while it's in your bag or whatever. Mine was a little toggle switch on the underside of the laptop. On the bottom towards the back where the hinges for the screen are located it was a little toggle switch with a padlock icon. Just simply slide it to the unlocked position so the device will recognize and allow the buttons to activate their function.

I was so frustrated at first; I thought it was broken before I even set it up for the first time!

Figured I check to see if anyone was having the same issue, hope this helps!
