Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I acquired a Pavilion dv7t-7000 that won't boot up. The caps lock blinks 2 short white blinks and wireless button has a red led lit up. I have seen other questions about blink codes, but none mention a red led in wireless key. I have tried the power button with battery out with no different results. I have tried switching ram around with no difference. I am pretty sure it's just 2 short blinks before it pauses and repeats, but red led is constant. I have tried hitting f10 key, and f1 key with no results.

Bios corruption, my question is how would I reload a bios image to the machine at this point.  Winkey and b key did not work, and win key and v also did nothing...

Hi @Azorian,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the BIOS corruption issue on the HP Pavilion dv7t-7000!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all peripheral devices (e.g., printers, USB drives).
  • Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord.
  • Remove the battery (if applicable).
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  • Reconnect the power cord and battery, then try to turn on the computer.

Restore BIOS Defaults:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Power it on and repeatedly press the F10 key until the BIOS setup screen appears.
  • Once in BIOS, reset to default settings:
    • Use arrow keys to navigate to File > Restore Defaults.
    • Select Restore defaults and confirm the action.

BIOS Recovery Using a Key Combination:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Press and hold the Windows key + B key together, then press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds, release the Power button, but continue to hold the Windows + B keys.
  • If the BIOS update screen appears, follow on-screen instructions to restore the BIOS.

Create BIOS Recovery USB Drive:

  • Download the latest BIOS update file for your specific model from the HP Support website.
  • Create a BIOS recovery USB drive using the downloaded file:
  • Insert the USB drive into the computer and follow the recovery instructions.

Reset CMOS Battery:

  • Turn off the computer and unplug it.
  • Remove the battery and access the bottom cover to find the CMOS battery.
  • Disconnect the CMOS battery for about 5-10 minutes, then reconnect it.
  • Assemble the laptop and try to power it on.

I hope this helps.
