Hello,
I have a HP Notebook 15-ba088ng (Product: Z5B03EA#ABD) with an Insydeh20 Rev. 5.0 with the BIOS Version F.17, which has a dead hard drive.
So I replaced the hard drive with a new SSD and tried to reinstall Window with a Windows 10 Installation USB stick, which I already used on many other computers before, but the stick doesn't show up under boot options, in fact, it shows absolutely no boot options.
I already tried everything I could find online, which includes:
- using an installation DVD instead of the installation USB
- using a Windows 7 or Windows 8 installation media instead
- changing the BIOS settings (which looks like it isn't possible, as all settings except for date and time are reset back to default after reboot, even Admin password)
- replacing the CMOS battery (still no settings saved)
- updating the BIOS (which also didn't work, as none of the BIOS files from the HP support page seem to work, when booting from the USB and installing the BIOS update it looks like it's updating for about an hour but then I always get the message "BIOS update failed")
- forcing the update by pressing Windows + B/ Windows + V at boot, only black screen
- trying different hard drives, still absolutely nothing shows up under boot options
Right now I'm looking for a working BIOS update or maybe something else I could try to get the Windows 10 Installation USB to work.
Thank you in advance for your help.

There are a couple of different BIOS/UEFI booting menus out there.
One has a single list of boot devices -- and that is the BIOS version.
The other has two lists of boot devices -- a legacy list and a UEFI list -- and that is the UEFI version.
The second version also disables, by default, the ability to boot from portable devices, which include USB sticks and connected external drives.
If you have the second, you have to hunt down that option as sorry, I don't have such a device anymore to check that out myself.

The problem is, that I can open the boot menu by pressing F9 at startup, but the boot menu doesn't show any boot options!
I also realized, that the files I get from creating a Bios Update USB don't match with my BIOS-ID, which is 81FA, I can't find any BIOS update matching this ID.

What you're opening is the Boot Devices menu -- and if booting from portable media is DISABLED, USB and external drives will not show up in that menu, including any internal CD/DVD drives,
You have to go elsewhere in the bios to find that setting and change it.

I know that this is the Boot Device menu, but my problem is when I enter the BIOS, change something (for example I disable Secure boot and enable Legacy, or anything else, doesn't matter), save it by selecting "Save changes and exit" or by clicking F10, after a reboot the settings are reset back to default. I already replaced the CMOS battery but still no success.
