Is this a power-on password or a Windows password?
If the second, you should try plugging in an external keyboard and seeing if that works. If it does, that implies your built-in keyboard has gone bad and would need to be replaced.
If it's the first, an external keyboard probably won't work because the USB drivers would not have been loaded when you are attempting to enter the password. And in that case, there is nothing we can do for you.

Hello WAWood,
I appreciate ur help.
further, its a window password. I used external keyboard also, problem persists.
However, I am able to key in password by randomly pressing keys on laptop keyboard...suddenly it allows entry of characters.
one thing which is bothering is that while using browser...it behaves like Ctrl is already pressed...for instance when I press H..it opens history...when I press S ..it opens up file saving options.....when i scroll the page it begins to zoom out/in.
anticipating ur continued support
Regards.
