Hello.
I am trying to do a data recovery on a Pavilion 15 n020el notebook because its Windows 8 doesn't start anymore; in addition, all recovery options don't work (the loading screen fades and a black screen remains).
So, i tought to attempt a data recovery before doing any change to the notebook. I tried to run a recent Lubuntu live but, when it tries to access the Windows partition, it says me an error message about some kind of "NTFS file system inconsistency". So i downloaded the ISO image of Windows 8 from Microsoft, to attempt to run a chkdsk, and i used Rufus to "burn" the ISO to a USB pen drive but, unfortunately, i am not able to boot it; that is, when i press F9 soon after turning on the notebook, and i choose the USB pen drive, the Windows starting screen appears (the HP logo with the little loading icon at the bottom) as if the USB pen drive had been ignored.
So, in conclusion, i can boot near everything from USB pen drive (for example Windows XP, Windows 7 and Linux), but i can't boot Windows 8 to perfom a chkdsk and possibily access data.
What could be the problem? Could i obtain the booting of Windows 8 from USB pen drive by updating the BIOS?
I specify some additional information about the notebook:
Product number: F2T74EA#ABZ
Born On Date: 02/16/2014
System Board ID: 216F
BIOS Version: F.00

I have been able to recover data through a tool named Testdisk in Lubuntu. Also, i fixed the NTFS partition with a tool comprised in a toolkit named Medicat. Now the Windows preinstalled into the hd starts normally, and even the installation procedure (by USB/DVD medium) now starts.
