Hi @Arek88, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Password check failed - Fatal Error... System Halted." message on an HP laptop usually means the BIOS or power-on password was entered incorrectly multiple times, leading to a security lockout.

Steps to Fix the Issue:

Reset the BIOS Password Using a Backdoor Code (Older HP Models)

  • If your HP laptop is older, it may show a System Disabled Code after multiple incorrect password attempts.
  • Note down the code displayed on the screen and try entering it into an online BIOS password generator to get an unlock key.
  • Alternatively, some HP models have default backdoor passwords (e.g., "admin", "password", or the laptop's serial number). You can try these.

Perform a CMOS Reset (For Some Models)

  • If your laptop has a removable CMOS battery, you can:
    1. Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power adapter.
    2. Open the back panel and remove the CMOS battery (looks like a coin cell battery).
    3. Press and hold the power button for 30-60 seconds.
    4. Wait 5-10 minutes, then reinsert the CMOS battery and power on the laptop.
    5. The BIOS password might be reset.

BIOS Recovery (For UEFI-Based HP Laptops)

If you suspect a BIOS corruption issue, you can try:

  • Press Win + B while powering on (some HP models enter BIOS recovery).
  • Create a BIOS recovery USB using another PC and HP's support tools.

If these steps won't help! Then you will have to visit the nearest HP authorized service center for further assistance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
