Notebook does not power on. And even going through the sequence of remove/re-attach battery and power adapter, sometimes get an amber light sometimes white light. But when I press the power button the button light shows for less than a second only then the power light goes out and no startup of any kind. Tried the windows key + "B "or ("V") + power button but no luck.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi @OneA,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your notebook is experiencing power issues that might be related to the hardware components such as the battery, power adapter, motherboard, or connections. Here are a few steps you can try to diagnose and potentially fix the issue:
Check the Power Supply:
- Ensure that the power adapter is properly connected to both the notebook and the power outlet.
- Try using a different power outlet.
- If possible, test with another compatible power adapter to rule out any issues with the adapter itself.
Inspect the Battery:
- Since you've already tried removing and re-attaching the battery, ensure it is properly seated and the contacts are clean.
- If the battery is accessible and removable, check for any signs of damage or swelling. Swollen batteries need to be replaced immediately as they pose safety risks.
Reset the Hardware:
- Disconnect all external devices and peripherals.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power from the system, then attempt to power on again.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter and try to turn it on.
Check for BIOS Corruption:
- You mentioned trying the Windows key + "B" or "V" + power button sequence, which is typically used for BIOS recovery. Make sure you are performing these steps correctly:
- Fully power off the notebook.
- Hold down the Windows key and "B" or "V" key.
- While holding those keys, press and hold the power button for a few seconds.
- Release the power button but continue holding the other keys for a few more seconds.
LED Indicator Lights:
- The change in LED colors (amber to white) can indicate different statuses or error codes depending on your notebook model. Refer to your notebook's manual or manufacturer’s website for specific information on what these LED colors mean.
Listen for Beeps or Sounds:
- Sometimes, error codes are conveyed through beep sequences when the notebook tries to boot. Listen for any unusual beeps or sounds that might indicate where the issue lies.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the outline of possible solutions. I have tried these steps but sadly with no success. But during the problem resolution stage I did once (but only just once with a new battery!) get it to start up and the notebook worked fine. But after I shut it down it has not been able to power on again (sometimes after re-installing the battery the amber power light turns white after a while) with the power button light disappearing a second after being pressed.
