Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Laptop randomly stopped booting. I made sure it was fully charged (power LED changed from amber to white). When turning on, Power LED would flash once while fan started to ramp up. LED would quickly go out and fan would spin down. Then every couple of seconds, the cycle would repeat. I tried the steps online in HP support to create a USB drive with the BIOS restore tool. After unsuccessfully running the tool, the Power LED now stays on, but the Caps Lock LED blinks 3 times. Screen is still black and after a pause, the cycle repeats. I found the LED alarm chart, but there is no condition for 3 long blinks without any fast blinks following.

I have also tried the hard reset procedure (unplug, hold power for 15 seconds, plug in) both before and after BIOS tool. My daughter is supposed to take this notebook to college in a couple of weeks. Any ideas?

Thank you kindly

Hello I came across your post and want to suggest two solutions that could be tried, . Here is what you'd do

Reseat RAM

RAM (Random access memory) is the main memory that the processor frequently interacts with and has a lot to do with screen display. If your RAM should have any issue then it can seriously affect the entire PC. Reseating the RAM requires physical access to it, so you will need to be able to open your computer case. Shut down your computer and disconnect everything, then carefully remove your RAM completely, gently place it back into the slots. Close your computer frame, then try to turn it on again. Or you can try your PC RAM on other computer systems to make sure its not the RAM thats faulty, Hopefully this would help solve the problem

Clear Ventilation

In order to run efficiently for long periods of time, a computer needs to be well ventilated. If dust is clogging the vents and weighing down the fans, the computer can overheat. In some cases the computer may not turn on at all. This is part of its design to help it avoid any physical damage. Take your computer outdoors and use a can of compressed air to clear your computer's vents and fans of dust. Open your computer's frame if possible so you can be more thorough.

Hope this help you fix you're computer system.🙂😀

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Re-seating the WiFi module brought it back to life.

I was able to bring the notebook back to life. First, I tried re-seating the RAM. Next, I tried re-seating the hard drive. Finally, I re-seated the WiFi module and it started to work again. I still hope to see HP respond with what 3 blinks of the Caps Lock LED indicates since it isn't on their troubleshooting chart.
