OMEN Laptop - 15-en0013ax
Microsoft Windows 11

So i just bought an additional ssd the other day, i put it in and it installed just fine, as a new partition. not replacing the currently existing one where windows was installed. and i move some files and games on to the new drive, everything went normal but when i update my nvidia drivers from the geforce experience app, it asked me to restart so i clicked restarted now. once it boots up, i get a sudden BSOD error code 0xc0000001..

i have tried resetting the windows from both cloud download and reinstall methods, i have tried going to command prompt and do that set of commands "bootrec /fixboot" thing but it doesnt worked, i tried using usb for a fresh install but it just wont boot the usb even though i have enabled the usb boot settings and turn off the secure boot option on BIOS settings..

later on i found out if i format and wipe the ssd where the windows was installed im able to get the usb boot to run and install the new fresh windows, however once it has installed it goes back to the BSOD screen. trying to enter safemode doesn't do anything too.. please help me out, im really running out of options.. and i have run the hardware diagnostics on both ssd drives they're all passed the test but the 1st ssd got a wear down level 4%. when i format the ssd earlier, i took out the new ssd. still haven't put it in because i got my college files there, i don't want to risk it getting deleted. but really can anyone please help me out?

Hi @kid_Lettuce,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0xc0000001 is typically associated with a problem with the Windows Boot Manager, which can cause the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on your Omen 15 2020 laptop running Windows 11. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Try to boot in safe mode: Restart your computer and try to boot into Safe Mode by pressing the F8 or F10 key during startup. This will start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services, which can help you identify the cause of the problem.
  • Check your hard drive: A failing or corrupt hard drive can cause the BSOD error code 0xc0000001. Use the built-in Windows CHKDSK tool to scan your hard drive for errors and repair any issues that it finds.
  • Use the System File Checker tool: This built-in Windows tool can scan your system files for corruption and replace any damaged files with a clean version.
  • Update your drivers: Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause the BSOD error code 0xc0000001. Use the Device Manager in Windows to update your drivers to the latest version.
  • Perform a system restore: If the problem started after a recent software installation or update, you can use the Windows System Restore tool to roll back your system to a previous point in time.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to perform a clean installation of Windows 11 on your Omen 15 laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

i've tried few things that night, all of them includes all the suggested methods. ive used HP Hardware diagnostics to check both of my old SSD and newly bought SSD, both of them are fine. Only the one that comes with the laptop has gone down 4% of weariness/health level, personally that shouldnt be an issue.

Tried checking it with HD Sentinel software and the result is the same. I've also run CHKDSK and "sfc /scannow" there seems to be no issues. I can't get into safe mode bc the error screen would block the way every boot. The drivers were in their latest version.

Performing a system restore, resetting the windows, even i did fresh installation of Windows 11 and then 10,  the error screen keeps appearing when the laptop boots up.. One thing to note, i suspected the BIOS because when i try installing windows from usb drive, the laptop wont detect that usb unless i format the SSD im going to use to install windows first, even though i have turn off the "secure boot" and enable the "usb boot" from the BIOS options, and arrange the order making the USB boot the first priority.

I remember around day 2 of owning this laptop (back in 2021), i downloaded and installed everything HP Support Assistant software recommends me to update including the BIOS. which i upgraded to ver F19, somehow i look it up now on the website, it says for my model, the latest BIOS ver recommended is F18 Rev A instead. could faulty BIOS be the reason here?

Because by coincidence, i found a way to pass the error screen and continue to my windows logon screen by pressing F10 (which opens boot manager menu. tbh i dont really know what that is), then i press "Esc" until i get out of that boot manager menu, then it loads to windows logon screen, and its been like 6 days, everything's normal that way. I can run apps, play games, just fine..

BUT doesnt mean it is solved.. the error screen still shows up everytime i restart, turn on the laptop. I dont even know how but somehow opening that boot manager menu when the error screen shows up (F10) then pressing Esc till i get out of the menu, the windows continue to boot and work just fine. Could ya give another suggestions? should i rollback my BIOS to the current latest recommended version on the web? if so, what are the chances that i'll get my laptop bricked or stuck in a bootloop? and if i kept using it like this (redirecting to boot manager menu by F10 and then get out of the menu bypassing the error screen) would it affect the laptop in longterm in negative way? Please help..
