Hi @Kemebo,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your PC is experiencing a hardware issue after replacing the power plug. The blinking caps lock LED can often indicate a specific error code. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:
1. Identify the Blink Code
The blink code (3 times followed by 5 times) usually indicates a specific issue. For HP laptops and desktops, these blink codes can correspond to hardware issues like memory, CPU, or other components.
2. Power Reset
Perform a power reset to clear any temporary hardware faults:
- Turn off the PC and disconnect it from the power source.
- Disconnect all external devices (USB devices, printers, etc.).
- Hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the power source and try turning on the PC again.
3. Check Connections
Since you recently replaced the power plug, ensure that:
- All internal cables are securely connected, including power cables to the motherboard, CPU, and other components. The RAM modules are properly seated in their slots.
- The graphics card (if applicable) is securely seated in its slot.
4. Reseat or Replace RAM
A common cause of boot issues is faulty or improperly seated RAM:
- Turn off the PC and unplug it.Open the case and carefully remove the RAM modules.
- Reinsert the RAM modules, ensuring they are fully seated. If you have multiple RAM sticks, try booting with just one stick at a time to identify if one is faulty.
5. Check for Beep Codes (if applicable)
If your PC has an internal speaker, it might emit beep codes instead of blink codes. Listen for these and refer to the motherboard manual or the manufacturer's website for decoding.
6. Clear CMOS
Resetting the BIOS to default settings might help:
- Turn off the PC and unplug it.Locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard (a small, round, silver battery).
- Remove the battery for about 5 minutes, then reinsert it.Alternatively, use the CMOS reset jumper if available (refer to the motherboard manual).
7. Test with Minimal Configuration
Try booting the PC with only essential components to identify the issue:
- Disconnect all drives (HDD, SSD, optical drives).Remove any additional expansion cards.
- Try booting with just the CPU, one stick of RAM, and the power supply connected to the motherboard.
8. Check Power Supply
Ensure the power supply is functioning correctly:
- If you have access to a multimeter, test the power supply voltages.
- If possible, try using a different power supply to see if that resolves the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
