Okay, I'm old enough to know better, but I'm also old enough to forget that I know better.   My  desktop has been locked up by HP Imitators (Scammers).  Any advise will be Greatly  Appreciated.   By the way I do not have a recovery disc.

Since you had W10 installed just download W10 and reinstall it.

W10 will know that it was installed before and Activate it.

Yep, that's it.

Sometimes you can restore to a date before this happened.

Or you can do a Google search for " SYSKEY SCAM"

You could find some help that way.

Sorry.

Thanks. I do have a new hard drive for that computer. If I swap out the drive,  will it still be locked?

You can remove the HDD and the SYSKEY will go with it.

You can install a new HDD and reload the OS and it will be clean.

Awesome.  I'm pretty sure I still have the product key number. Can I log in to my microsoft accound and enter the key number, or do I need to buy a new copy of Windows?
