I would like to automatically release BIOS updates to update these via Windows Updates. But the users do not have the BIOS password and each Laptop has an individual password.

What happens if I try to Update a password protected BIOS via Windows Updates? Will the user be granted to enter the BIOS password or what would be best practices for silent updates?

In case this isn't possible at all - what do you consider as more secure? Not updating a BIOS or not setting a BIOS password? The disks are encrypted so attackers shouldn't be able to steal the data even if there's no BIOS password set.

Hi,

I am not trying to bypass or subvert security mechanisms. I am asking for best practices on how to update BIOS Firmware in a large environment, if there is an BIOS password.

Is the password even required when updating with Windows Update?

If not, are there any documentations on how to automatically update the Firmware without having the user to manually enter the password?
