HP Pavilion - 14-ce3510sa

This has been happening intermittently for a couple of months now (after upgrade to Windows 11 - coincidence??), and seems to be more likely if it's left in sleep/hibernate for a long time. The power LED will come on and usually the fan and it'll just sit there with a black screen - multiple forced power off and then on again doesn't help. Sometimes it power cycles - it'll come on for maybe 30 seconds and then the power light will go off and then back on again. There's no CMOS battery, but if I do a hard reset to disconnect A/C, remove the base of the laptop and unscrew the battery, take it out and put it back in again, it'll always boot up fine (with an message about the CMOS having changed). There's never been any issues found with sfc or DISM, HP hardware diagnostics (in Windows/UEFI) or virus scans (Defender in Windows and offline), and it'll work perfectly fine until the next time it doesn't! It was originally happening waking from sleep and then I enabled hibernation so that at least I don't lose work when it happens. I've also updated the BIOS, but that didn't seem to help either, and used two different memory chips (original 8Gb & Crucial 32Gb).

It looks like something somewhere is corrupting the BIOS and I really hope that it's not the motherboard! Worth trying a new battery maybe?
