HP Pavilion 14-ce1507sa

Hi, my laptop won’t switch on, the power button flashes continuously with long pauses (approx 4/5 seconds between long flashes) but there is no other sign of anything happening, no fan starting up or anything. This issue happens when:

The battery is connected and AC power supplied.

Only battery powering the laptop.

Only AC power supplied.

Has anyone else experienced this/ resolved it?

Hi @JT3991,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The flashing power button on an HP Pavilion laptop can indicate various issues with the hardware or power supply. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  1. Hard Reset:

    • Disconnect the laptop from both AC power and the battery.
    • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
    • Reconnect the AC power adapter (without the battery) and attempt to power on the laptop.
  2. Check the Power Adapter:

    • Ensure that the power adapter is functioning properly. You can use a multimeter to check if the adapter is delivering the correct voltage.
    • Try using a different compatible power adapter to see if the issue is related to the adapter itself.
  3. Battery Issues:

    • If the laptop only works when connected to AC power and not with the battery, your battery might be faulty. Try removing the battery and powering on the laptop using just the AC power adapter.
    • If the laptop powers on without the battery but not with it, you may need to replace the battery.
  4. Check for Overheating:

    • Overheating can cause laptops to not boot. Make sure the laptop is not overheating due to dust buildup in the vents. If necessary, clean the vents and ensure proper airflow.
  5. Memory and RAM:

    • Reseating or replacing the RAM modules may help. If you have multiple RAM modules, try booting the laptop with only one at a time to identify any potential faulty RAM.
  6. Display Issues:

    • It's possible that the laptop is booting up, but the display is not working. Try connecting the laptop to an external monitor to see if it's displaying anything on an external screen.
  7. BIOS/UEFI Reset:

    • You can try resetting the BIOS/UEFI settings to default by accessing the setup utility. Consult your laptop's user manual for instructions on how to do this.
  8. Motherboard or Power Button Issues:

    • If none of the above solutions work, the problem may be related to a faulty motherboard or power button.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
