Hello HP Support Team,

I am experiencing a persistent CMOS checksum error (502) on my HP Victus 15-fa1093dx gaming laptop, which prevents the system from booting into Windows. The laptop gets stuck during the boot process.

Here are the steps I have already tried:

  • Reset BIOS to default settings, but the issue persists.

  • All hardware components, including RAM, storage, and internal connections, are properly seated and show no signs of malfunction.

I would like to know:

  • Does this laptop model have a separate, replaceable CMOS battery?

  • What steps can I take to resolve this issue?

I would appreciate your guidance on resolving this problem.

Thank you.

Hi @Hafezyehhw,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Victus 15-fa1093dx is showing a persistent CMOS Checksum Error (502) and is unable to boot into Windows, even after resetting BIOS defaults. Let’s go through some steps to help resolve this issue.

a. Understand CMOS Battery on Your Model

The HP Victus 15-fa1093dx does have a CMOS battery, but it is typically a small coin-cell battery soldered or connected internally, not always user-replaceable without opening the chassis.

This battery maintains BIOS settings when the laptop is powered off. A failing CMOS battery is a common cause of checksum errors.

b. Power Reset the Laptop

Turn off the laptop and disconnect the AC adapter.

If possible, remove the main battery (if removable).

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge residual power.

Reconnect AC power (and battery if removed) and try to boot.

c. Replace or Reseat CMOS Battery (if comfortable opening laptop)

For this model, the CMOS battery is usually accessible under the back cover.

Carefully remove the battery, wait a few minutes, then reinsert it.

If error persists, consider replacing the CMOS battery with a compatible coin-cell battery.

Only attempt this if you are comfortable working inside laptops; otherwise, skip to software/firmware steps.

I hope this helps.
