Having trouble resetting my HP stream. I’m wanting to wipe it completely so that I can get rid of it. the usual stuff is not working like hitting at 11 or even resetting it from the Settings menu.  it it’s also asking for an administrator password whenever I can get it to go to that screen that I have never had one on this laptop

Hi @della22,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble resetting your HP Stream and do not know the administrator password, you can try addressing the issue with HP Recovery Manager if available on your device. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Using HP Recovery Manager:

Power Off the Device: Make sure your HP Stream laptop is completely turned off.

Boot into HP Recovery Manager:

  • Turn the laptop back on and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly until the "Choose an option" screen appears.
  • If F11 doesn't work, you can try accessing the BIOS settings with F10 and navigating to HP Recovery Manager if it's listed.

Select Recovery Environment:

  • Choose “Troubleshoot” and then select “HP Recovery Manager.”

Factory Reset:

  • Within HP Recovery Manager, select “System Recovery.”
  • Follow the instructions to perform a full system reset. This will erase all personal data and reinstall the original operating system.

Without HP Recovery Manager:

If the HP Recovery Manager is not accessible or doesn't work:

Create a Recovery USB:

  • You can create a recovery USB drive using another Windows PC. HP provides recovery media creation software that helps you do this.
  • Download the recovery software, install it, and create a USB recovery drive for your HP Stream.

Reinstall Windows:

  • Insert the recovery USB drive into your HP Stream and restart the device.
  • Boot from the USB by selecting it from the boot device options (usually accessible during boot up by pressing F9 or Esc).
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows, which will wipe all existing data.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
