Hi @Hania0000019

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It seems like your laptop is encountering a boot issue, and the "media test failure" message typically indicates that the system cannot find a bootable operating system or hard drive.

Here’s how you can troubleshoot and resolve this step by step:

Step 1: Check Boot Order in BIOS

  1. Restart your laptop and press the Esc, F2, or F10 key repeatedly during startup to enter the BIOS menu (the key varies by model).
  2. Navigate to the Boot Options or Boot Order section.
  3. Ensure the hard drive is listed as the first boot device. If it’s not, move it to the top of the boot order.
  4. Save changes and exit the BIOS.

Step 2: Inspect Hard Drive Connection

  1. Turn off your laptop and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Open the back panel (if accessible) and check if the hard drive is securely connected.
  3. If the hard drive appears loose, reconnect it firmly.

Step 3: Run Diagnostics

  1. If the laptop automatically starts the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, run a Hard Drive Test to check for errors.
  2. If the hard drive fails the test, it may need to be replaced.

Step 4: Reinstall the Operating System

  1. If the hard drive passes the test but the operating system is missing or corrupted, you’ll need to reinstall Windows 7.
  2. Use a bootable USB or DVD with the Windows 7 installation files:
    • Insert the bootable media and restart the laptop.
    • Press the appropriate key (e.g., F9) to access the boot menu and select the USB or DVD drive.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows.
