Model # 15-dy2193dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Ive got a 15-dy2193dx. It won’t power on. When the power button is pressed, the power indicator led and the charge port led both blink on for 4 seconds then off, and then repeats indefinitely. The power button seems to do something, cause when I press it the power indicator goes from solid to the blink described above.

Diagnostics I’ve tried:

1. Tested power adapter. 19.6V

2. Removed battery, held power button for 30 seconds. Reinstalled battery, and tried to power on again. Same result.

3. Removed battery, plugged in power adapter, and tried to power on again. Same result.

4. Disconnected ram one at a time and installed them individually and tried to power on. Same result. Also swapped with known good ram

5. Removed SSD and powered on. Same result

6. Bought a same rev MB and installed. Same result. I also tried steps 1-5 again with the new MB. No change.

Without any beeps, other led indicators, or signs of life I can’t get any further. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi @SMB111,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've already gone through some thorough diagnostics, and the issue persists. Given the steps you've taken, here are a few additional suggestions.

  • Check for Loose Connections: Ensure all internal connections, such as cables connecting the motherboard to the power button, display, and other components, are securely connected.
  • External Display: Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if there's any display output. It's possible that the laptop's display is faulty, and an external monitor could show if the laptop is booting up despite the lack of a visible display.
  • BIOS/UEFI Reset: Try resetting the BIOS/UEFI settings to default. This can usually be done by removing the CMOS battery on the motherboard (while the laptop is unplugged and the main battery is removed) or using a specific jumper on the motherboard if available.
  • Check for Short Circuits: Inspect the motherboard for any signs of a short circuit, such as burnt areas, loose screws, or anything out of the ordinary. Make sure there are no loose metal objects that could be causing a short.
  • Inspect Power Button: Ensure that the power button itself is not stuck or damaged. Sometimes, a faulty power button can cause erratic behavior.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
