HP Pavilion 15 au057cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The other day I turned on my laptop and it was installing windows update so I opted to use a friend's as I was in a hurry. Days later I turned on the laptop but it showed an error message about /EFI/BOOT/BCD missing. On a different PC I searched on HP website and downloaded the mediacreation tool and followed the process to set up windows 10 media creation for another PC on a USB, I inserted the USB to my computer and tried to repair my computer but kept getting error messages.

After some search I found I could use a clover bootloader on a USB stick and i tried it and was inventually able to boot into the PC and I continue to my main task which was to install a virtual computer running win10. When the it was installing I left, only to come back and the computer had powered down. I turned it on again using the Clover on USB found out the battery was low so I plugged it in and repeated the installation process for the virtual PC. a few mins later the battery critical warning came up and that was when I discoverd that the PC wasn't charging.

Now when I plug the AC adapter in, the led (red or amber) comes on for about 7-9 sec, goes off and comes on again. When I try to power the laptop on it goes on for about 30 seconds and goes off.

after looking at different videos on youtube I took out the battery (internal) tried to connect the AC adapter and a white LED comes and stays on and the laptop does not power on.

The charging led came up showing amber/orange, flickering off about every 10 seconds. The laptop charged a bit and I used windows-media-creator on another computer to create a windows 10 installation USB and installed a fresh windows 10 on the computer.

Now the computer boots fine (doesnt power on unless the AC adapter is connected) but does not charge. When the computer is on it does not detect the AC adapter plugged in, it only detect the AC adapter when the computer is off but only charges the computer enough to come on for about 15 to 20 mins in some times and never full charge and the battery has been working fine with no problem until now.

@macjere,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I recommend you update the BIOS and the chipset driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

If you continue facing the issue, reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager.

Here is how you do it.

Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”

Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”

Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.

Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”

Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!
