Hi @Sander-Vermeire

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP laptop isn’t starting and the LED on the power button is blinking, your laptop is likely trying to indicate a hardware issue using blink codes (also known as “beep codes” without the sound).

The number and pattern of the blinks can help pinpoint the issue.

Step 1: Count the Blink Pattern

Carefully observe the LED light on the power button or near the caps lock.

Does it blink a certain number of times, then pause and repeat?

Common patterns:

2 long, 2 short

3 blinks, pause, repeat

5 slow blinks, etc.

🔁 Write down the pattern, or tell me how many times it blinks before it pauses — this identifies the failing component.

Step 2: Basic Reset (Hard Reset)

Try this first, even if you’re seeing blinks.

If you have a removable battery:

Turn off the laptop.

Unplug the charger.

Remove the battery (if removable).

Hold down the Power button for 15–30 seconds.

Reconnect battery and charger.

Try turning it on again.

If your battery is non-removable:

Unplug charger.

Hold Power button for 15–30 seconds.

Plug in charger again.

Try to power on.

Step 3: Interpret the Blink Code

Refer to the link below to decode the same:

Step 4: Try External Monitor (If screen is black)

Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV via HDMI.

Press Windows key + P a few times, or Fn + F4 (varies by model), to try projecting.

If the external display works, it's a screen or GPU issue.

Still Not Starting?

Let me know:

Exact blink pattern (number of blinks before it pauses and repeats)

Laptop model number (e.g., HP Pavilion 15-dwXXXX, HP Envy X360, etc.)

Whether you see anything on screen at all (backlight, logo, etc.)

Once I have that, I can give you a precise fix or next steps, including BIOS recovery if applicable.
