HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-ch1000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Envy 17.3 Laptop will not boot up.  Powe34r light comes on, then goes out.  No BIOS action what so ever.  As this laptops extended warranty just expired, there doesn't seem any way to speak with someone about a repair/fix or to easily get all of my data off this machine.

Best Buy would not attempt to fix it and referred me HP Warranty, which was a complete dead end thus far.

Hi @DanBass

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your HP ENVY 17.3 Laptop.

Here are several steps you can try to potentially resolve the issue:

Hard Reset:

  • Turn off your laptop completely.
  • Disconnect all external devices and unplug the power adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter, but do not reconnect any peripherals yet.
  • Turn on your laptop and see if it boots.

Check Power Supply:

  • Ensure the power adapter is working properly. If possible, test with a different adapter.
  • Check for any signs of damage or wear in the power cable.

Inspect Battery:

  • If your laptop's battery is removable, take it out, wait a few seconds, and put it back.
  • Try booting with the laptop connected to the power supply without the battery.

External Display Test:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if it's a screen issue.
  • Power on the laptop to check for display on the external monitor.

RAM Check:

  • If comfortable doing so, check the RAM modules. Remove them carefully, clean them, and reseat them properly.

Recovery Methods:

  • If you have access to another computer, you may attempt to create a bootable USB drive for Windows 10 to see if that allows the laptop to start and repair the system.

Data Recovery

If you're concerned about recovering data:

  • Remove Hard Drive: You may remove the hard drive to connect it to another computer using a suitable adapter or cable. This allows you to access your data directly.
  • Professional Data Recovery Services: If you're not comfortable with these steps, consult a professional data recovery service.

HP Support and Repair

Even if your warranty has expired, you can contact HP support for guidance on potential service options or for advice on buying replacement parts.

  • HP Support Website:Visit HP Support for assistance specific to your laptop model.
  • Authorized Service Centers: Seek out any HP authorized service providers for out-of-warranty repairs.

These steps can help you diagnose the issue and determine the appropriate next steps. Consulting a professional technician may be beneficial if you are not comfortable performing hardware checks on your own.
