HP ENVY - 13-ah1004na
Microsoft Windows 11

Recently when starting laptop after pushing power button, power indicator lights but laptop does not boot. Holding down power button for a few seconds turns off indicator light and when power button pressed a second time laptop starts normally.

Sometimes repeatedly pressing 'space bar' whilst powering on avoids the issue but not all the time.

I tried to update the BIOS using Win10 version but it fails and there is no Win11 BIOS available on the HP Support page.

This behaviour started recently and unable to work out what is causing the issue.

Any ideas what might be causing this behaviour?

This has nothing to do with the BIOS -- so trying to force such an update risks trashing the PC and will not fix this.

This generally means the battery is failing.

Hi WAWood, Thanks for the guidance, that really helped me troubleshoot further.

I took apart the laptop and removed the battery, and found that when I powered up on AC adapter only, the issue occurs and there is an error code shown. It says "The CMOS checksum is invalid. The CMOS will be reset to the default config and will be rebooted. Check BIOS Settings .... etc. Error code CMOS Reset (502)".

Just for info, I also carried out battery diagnostics and AC Adaptor (EUFI) diagnostic tests and both are OK. I tried to check the CMOS battery but it doesnt have one (took me ages to realise that) :-).

HP Website says reinstall BIOS so back to needing an updated BIOS for WIn11.

Just for info I've followed this HP guidance - https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3932413-2337994-16

But not able to fix the issue, hence why I think I've got the worng BIOS for my OS. The Laptop works OK when it does start but hve to go through the recovery every time.

Thanks WAWood, pretty much the same as the link I attached.

I'm pretty sure, thinking back, that this occurred after an HP Support Assistant update.

Does anyone have a copy of the correct BIOS for this model - HP Envy 13-ah1004na, that is Win11 compatoble.
