I have an old HP business laptop, and I was thinking of disposing of it in an e-waste collection, but wanted to check all work files have been deleted from the hard disk before doing so. The trouble is I cannot get past the power-on password. I know the password, is it is written on tape on the laptop, and I have tried it as written and as many combinations of the password as I can think of, but it still won't accept it. What could I be doing wrong? Is it something stupid like Caps Lock on being on (which I have obviously checked)? Any suggestions?
