Hi @scphilpy

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for reaching out. I understand you're not sure whether the computer is actually starting up or remaining in Hibernate mode. We'll be glad to help look into this with you.

To better understand the behavior, could you share:

  • The HP product model or product number
  • The operating system installed (Windows 10, Windows 11, etc.)
  • What happens when you press the Power button
    • Do you see any lights turn on?
    • Do you hear the fan spinning?
    • Does the screen remain black, or do you see the HP logo?
  • Approximately how long the system has been in this condition
  • Any troubleshooting you've already tried, such as holding the Power button, disconnecting accessories, or connecting the charger

In the meantime, you can try these basic checks:

  1. Ensure the AC adapter or power cable is firmly connected to both the computer and the wall outlet.
  2. If it's a notebook, confirm the charging light is illuminated when the adapter is connected.
  3. Press the Power button once and watch for any signs of activity such as keyboard backlighting, fan movement, or indicator LEDs.
  4. If the screen remains dark, tap the Caps Lock key a few times and check whether the Caps Lock light responds.
  5. Disconnect external devices such as printers, USB drives, docking stations, and external monitors, then try starting the computer again.
  6. If the computer appears powered on but the display remains dark, increase the screen brightness and try connecting an external monitor if available.

Once you share the HP model and the symptoms you're observing, we'll have a clearer picture of whether the system is resuming from Hibernate, entering Sleep mode, or encountering a startup-related issue.

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
