Microsoft Windows 11

So, It is as the title says,  I'm having a problem with My laptop's booting up, which is (HP Omen 15-en0xxx) Ryzen 7 4800h, GTX 1660ti 6G. 16 GB RAM (upgraded RAM) 2019/2020 model
The problem started occurring around December last year, 2024. I noticed that whenever I try to press the power button, the laptop won't power up immediately. i sometimes need to press it a couple of times for the laptop to recognize the button press to boot up. I didn't give it much thought back then.
But now... six months later, the problem has gotten worse. I need to press and hold the power button for a couple of seconds like 3-20 seconds, and rense and repeat this rhythm randomly until the computer recognizes the button press. it takes me from about a minute to 30 minutes to get the laptop to power up, with an average of 10 to 15 minutes.
Sometimes I need to disconnect the AC so they keep pressing the power button; sometimes I need to connect the AC and keep pressing the power button.  I don't know exactly. It's like an RNG game, I need to keep pressing the power button until I hit a jackpot so the laptop will turn on, it's annoying and funny actually
Sometime, it took me over 50 minutes of constantly pressing the power button until it powered up.
The problem got really frustrating. I'm afraid that someday the laptop won't even want to turn on. But that day hasn't come yet.
The laptop itself is working great. No single issue, when it's powered on, it works flawlessly. I mainly use it to write scripts and game on it. With no issue.
But over the last 7 months, I only did very light gaming on it. I was mostly working on it, constantly writing, like writing a lot. When the issue started to occur,  I sometimes suspect that my constant use of the keyboard did this. But I think that's a stretch. But it's when the problem started to occur. so yeah Idk.
Previously I used to do some heavy gaming on it, but even during that time, I had no issue with it, well, except for some overheating problem that I easily fixed by replacing the thermal paste. and didn't have any problem with it.
I'm currently using it to write this post.

The stuff I did to suspect that affected the powering up of the laptop is:
1. replaced the thermal paste around October last year. and the laptop was working great with no issues.
2. Installed a new 1 tb m.2 SSD  on the empty slot 3 years ago.
3. Upgraded the RAM 4 years ago from 8gb (4 each slot) to 16 gb (8 GB each slot)
Other that, I didn't do any significant changes to the laptop.

before writing this post I tried the following fixes (which none had worked):
0. Updated the BIOS to the latest version.
1. Reseted the CMOS battery. by disconnecting the laptop battery and pressing the power button for over 60 seconds.
2 tried powering up the laptop without the battery (the battery is disconnected), the laptop still didn't power up with a single press or a couple of presses (I guess it didn't hit Jackpot)
3. Removed the RAM slots and SSD slots. and reinstalled them. (still didn't work)
4. tried powering the laptop up with the no ram slot, (didn;t work)
5. Removed and reinstalled the IR board ribbon that is connected to the motherboard and reinstalled it. (still didn't solve anything)

The laptop still wanted me to play the RNG game with it, and after 4 minutes, it powered up, like usual.
it all left me with one suspicion, (which is the power button itself, (the IR board) I guess it got worn out by the span of 5 years of use. idk but this is what I'm suspecting.

Another test I did. When the laptop is currently on, when I press the power button, nothing happening. It should go to sleep like I set it in the Windows power options, but it didn't.  Or when I try to hold the power button, the laptop won't force shut down. like it normally did back then.
And when I plug the AC the charging LED lights up, which means the laptop is receiving power normally.

Now my question is this. What should I do? Should I replace the IR board? But is it really the problem with the IR board, or is there something else that failed to recognize? What test or system check should I do?
Keep in mind the laptop is working fine right now when I'm using it.

@Zahouwi, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Power Button/IR Board:

External Keyboard Test: Try powering up with an external keyboard if it has a power button. If it works, the issue is likely with your laptop's power button or IR board.

Jump the Power Button Pins: If you're comfortable, short the power button pins on the motherboard to check if the issue is with the button itself.

Power Delivery:

Try a Different Charger: If you have a spare charger, try it to rule out power supply issues.

Power Reset: Unplug the charger and battery. Hold the power button for 30 seconds, then try powering it on without the battery (just with the charger).

BIOS/Software Check:

Reflash BIOS: Try flashing the BIOS with the latest version to rule out software issues.

Refer: HP Consumer Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) (Windows) | HP® Support

Windows Power Settings: Check that power settings in Windows allow devices to wake the laptop

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for replying.
Yes, I tried doing the power reset mode and updating the BIOS to the latest version using the HP support application, where I downloaded and installed the latest BIOS version available for my model.
I didn't try jump-starting the power button or trying a different charger. (because I don't have another charger)
And as I mentioned earlier, I tested the power button even when the computer is turned on, and still it didn't do anything. The computer should turn to sleep mode (as I assigned it in the power settings), but it didn't.
I'm not aware of wake, I just searched it, and it seems that the wake option only works when the laptop is in sleep mode.
I'll try doing a jump start on the power button. See what happens.

I just made a new test.
I put the laptop into sleep mode, then tried to wake it up only using the power key.
It acted the same. The laptop didn't register the key press for the first time.  I kept trying the RNG method with by continuing to press the power key until the laptop was woken from sleep on the fifth press.
And on the second try it woke around the 30th press
On the third attempt, I put the computer to sleep and tried waking the laptop using any other key on the keyboard. and it did, with on the first press of the keyboard, the laptop woke up from sleep.
And on another attempt, I did the same with the lid, I closed the lid and opened it, and the laptop just woke up.
This is waking the laptop from sleep mode, not shutting it down. But the problem is the same with the power button. The keyboard works fine.

Can this be of any help? Or do I have to order a new charger to test and an external keyboard to test your provided method?

Hey @Zahouwi,

Thanks for the update, that helps clarify things a lot! Based on your latest findings, it seems like the issue is likely related to the power button or the IR board, and it's possible that the button is either not making proper contact or there’s some kind of connection issue in the circuitry related to the power button.

Since the issue remains unresolved, I suggest you reach out to the nearest HP Authorised service center for personalized assistance. They can provide one-on-one help to fix the problem.

Note: There might be a nominal charge for the service they provide.
