After Windows updates, the laptop will not come back up.  I am presented with a black screen, no post screen, and the CAPS LOCK key is flashing about every 4 seconds or so.  The laptop is out of warranty and I am trying to help my 86 year old cousin get it back up and running.

Hi @djp1701,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the black screen.

If you have performed all the steps from this document and still having issues, this unit might need service.

In that case, I recommend you contact phone support.

Keep me posted for further assistance

Yeah...I tried most everything in the document save for the BIOS restore and I couldn't do that because I cannot get past the blinking CAPS-LOCK and have nothing on the screen.  My guess is that the graphics card may have died.  I did **bleep** and they wanted roughly $100 to troubleshoot.  I am not inclined to pay them to reach the same conclusion that I did.  Anyway, I  removed the hard drive and was able to recover the users profile.  It is an old machine and she is opting to get a newer one.  Thank you!
