Hi I have a real strange problem. I reloaded a HP lapto DV7. It needed drivers and they are all listed on the website so I downloaded them. I am still putting in service packs and have not got them all in.
I installed the drivers and some of them came up as unsigned drivers. Some of the USB ones and the touchpad. I am not sure about the other ones like the audio.
I go to restart the machine and get to the login screen and absolultly no keyboard and what is worse is also affected the onscreen keyboard would not come on either. I click the box (odd but the mouse works. the touch pad doesn't) I click the box and mark the onscreen keyboard and hit apply. The ok box greys out and the apply box greys out.
I research a bit with google and it looks like an unsigned driver issue. So I figured out how to get into safe boot option and turn signed drivers off. I don't want to do that as the drivers should be signed to be secure.
Now It appears that I have to do this everytime or it locks up at the login screen.
What do I do? I cannot log on to see which driver is the bad one. It won't let me. I can log on with the unsigned driver option on Safe boot menu.
Please advise. Do I roll the drivers back and how do I find out which one is the bad one.
Thanks Rick M

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support I see from your post you need assistance with the driver issue for your HP Pavilion G7 2373CA notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
What is the exact model of the notebook? Is it DV7-2373ca or Is it G7-2373ca
Have you installed a retail copy of Windows or OEM version of Windows?
Have you tried to update the drivers either using Windows update or using HP Support Assistant?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
If you're using HP Pavilion G7-2373ca notebook, I did go through the Product specifications and found that this PC was shipped with Windows 8 and there are only drivers available for Windows 8 and 8.1.
Software and driver download page from our HP support website.
If you have installed a retail copy of Windows then you would need to rely on Windows generic drivers, that is Windows update or you can try to install HP Support Assistant and check if that helps.
I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -
Download and install the Windows update troubleshooter from this link.
Now try to perform Windows Updates -
- Click Start, type update in the search box, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
- In the details pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
- If you see a message telling you that important or optional updates are available, or telling you to review important or optional updates, click the message to view the updates to install.
- In the list, select the check box for the updates that you want to install, click OK, and then click Install updates.
Alternatively, you can , download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
Once done, restart the computer.
If this does not resolves the issue then you would need to revert back to the original Operating system that was shipped with the PC.
If you have created one, you can try to perform a system recovery or else please follow the instructions from the private message to order a set of recovery media for your PC.
Here's what you need to know about obtaining recovery media for your PC.
Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.
Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,
Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,

Hi For sure it is a DV7-2173ca (Canada.) I will try some of those suggestions and get back to you.
I did install a verson from the support disk that came with the PC. THe Drivers all came from this website. Some came from Drivereasy as some are outdated. I am not sure if they are generic or not. I will try your suggestions and get back to you.

Hi
I reinstalled the Windows 7 from the HP media. I even selectivly updated the drivers and that keyboard problem never happened after the update.
However I now have a totaly different problem. I cannot install Service pack 1. I have downloaded the exe and other updates manualy. It gives me an error that it cannot install it. I am now trying to update windows KB with the windows update. As manualy downloading them is not working too well.
Can one order HP Windows 7 media with SP1 already installed? Just wondering if one can do that or if it is even available.
This one thing might get me over some of the problems.
Thanks Rick M

Thanks for getting back to us. I see that you were interacting with @Jeet_singh but he is out of the office at the moment. Don't worry, I'll be more than happy to help you.
I'm afraid, you would not be able to order the Win 7 Recovery Media as it is an obsolete OS now.
But have you had a chance to try this - Install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) yet?
Let me know.

I did try originaly to download all the Windows 7 service packs manualy. It would be easyer to start with an install with sp1 already in it.
How ever I did have some success with installing the original windows 7 disk and then allowing the Windows update to install all the updates automaticaly.
One stumbling block I found was this. Prior to this I could not run automatic update as it was completely blocked with an old driver. Windows update would not even run at all. Once I installed the driver below it allowed windows to update as it normaly would.
https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c02219204
Using WUSU and disks or manualy installing Service packs 1 and newer did not work. It would bind the whole system until It would no longer update.
I also updated the drivers that appeared to not work one at a time. I used the logic "if it isn't broke then don't fix it." Leaving the Synaptic touch pad alone and the Graphics card and the Audio drivers. Those drivers had the most unsigned errors previously.
As I installed windows those items seemed to work fine so I didn't update those drivers.
I did how ever update all the USB, intel drivers, Wifi and Network adaptors, Webcam, Card readers, AHCI drivers.
Right now it is running and is quite stable. I only wish that I had a Windows install disk with all the service packs already installed in one shot. Makeing it easyer for the next time I need to do it.
I had to run Windows update for almost two days to get the Gigiabites of patches into the laptop.
Is there an windows disk I can install like this for this laptop. This would make future reloads much easyer.
Thanks and Regards Rick M
