OMEN by HP 15-ax001la
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Product Information is missing after BIOS chip replacement

Hi all!

This is my first post on the community, I hope I'm posting in the correct forum; I'll try to be as brief and complete as possible.

Product: OMEN by HP Laptop PC - 15-ax001la

OS: Win10 Home 64bit - Version: 20H2

Problem: I performed a BIOS update (to F.56 Rev.A downloaded from HP website for my system), following the "update the system BIOS on this device" option; no flash drive. Both BIOS update and check were successful, but upon restart I got a black screen and there was nothing I could do the fix it. I took my pc to a local repair shop (there is no official HP technical support in Argentina and my pc is out of warranty. I must add that the place provides official support for other brands as well as general repairs and understood the problem perfectly). They ended up replacing the BIOS chip, as it was damaged and could not be re-flashed. PC works, but there are two issues I'd like to resolve.

First, upon power-on I get the "Manufacture Programming Mode is in Unlock Mode" message followed by "Product information not valid" with the following "information missing or invalid" error codes: System board (00A) - Product Name/Configuration/Serial Number/Product Number/Product Family/System Board CT number.  This I was told was normal since they don't have the HP codes for "tattooing" the BIOS. After hitting Enter, PC starts normally, except that the loading logo is not the OMEN logo, but the HP one (white circle with HP in black). My guess is that the BIOS installed is not the OMEN one, but another compatible HP BIOS (this is the second issue).

I found several posts and guides to solve the first issue including the Using BiosConfigUtility.exe (BCU) to Set a BIOS Administrator Password with the corresponding HP BIOS Configuration Utility (BCU) and a video showcasing a fix using the BCU.

As for product information, I have all, including the "feature byte" and "build-id", found on stickers pasted inside the laptop, but I'm not sure about the System Board CT number. I did find a CT code on the RAM module (as stated in the video), but I also found other CT numbers (on the battery I believe) with different amount of characters. The CT under the RAM has the same amount of characters as shown on the video.

Questions: Can I use the BCU to configure the BIOS using these codes? How can I know if the CT number found under the RAM module is the System board CT? Is this the same as "tattooing" the motherboard/BIOS?  How safe is it; i.e.: following the instructions, could it break/brick the BIOS chip again? Can I flash the F.56 Rev.A BIOS update on top of the BIOS I got installed? How safe is it if I do it through a flash drive instead of windows (I'm not willing to break another chip)? Will it have the OMEN logo instead of the HP one?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post!
