Today when I turned on the computer instead of booting to windows it launched system recovery. and checked for errors and then was unable to repair them. Then it led me to a menu to do a system restore, restore factory settings and other options I can't remember. Then I clicked cancel and rebooted the computer and it booted to windows.
This is the second time this happened within the last few weeks. What could cause this?
Can low disk space be a reason? When the computer did boot there was only 18 mb free.
Also, every time I do free space, it disappears without me downloading anything and my temp files are cleared. What could cause this?

Low disk space CAN prevent Windows from running because it needs space for file buffers.
There is a freeware app known as Wise Disk Cleaner. I use it every day to get rid of junk files: https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-disk-cleaner.html
