Hi
I am trying to install windows 11 of my 13th Gen core i5 laptop 15-fd000 (70R12AV)
When i try to "Load Driver" for the RST VMD .. it does it read the drivers
when I uncheck "hide drivers" I can see the driver 09AB and 467F but it doesnt install the drivers and so I cannot see the nvme.. the funny is I can see the nvme when i Browse for the driver and i can see my files
i Tried 2 different NVME SSD
I tried 2 different RSTsetup from intel
I tried more than 5 F6 drivers and 3 different from HP like SP146129 SP112698
I made a WTGo Win 11 and I fully updated the windows with bios update
but I cant see the rst in device manager - storage controller
Regards

Hi @Ashrafsh79,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you’re facing seems to be related to Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology) VMD (Volume Management Device) drivers, which are required for Windows to detect NVMe drives in some systems with Intel’s 13th Gen processors. Here's a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to resolve this.
Ensure BIOS Settings Are Correct
- Enter the BIOS setup during boot (usually by pressing F10, Esc, or Del).
- Look for the Storage Configuration or SATA/NVMe Configuration menu.
- Check if VMD Controller is enabled:
- If it’s enabled, the RST driver is required.
- If it’s disabled, try booting again to see if the NVMe is detected without the RST driver.
Download and Extract the Correct RST Driver
- Download the latest RST F6 driver from Intel's official website or HP's support page for your specific laptop model.
- Extract the driver files to a USB drive (ensure it's formatted as FAT32 or NTFS).
- Common Intel RST drivers: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19343/intel-rapid-storage-technology-driver-install...
Use Proper Driver Versions
- Driver Version Compatibility: Intel’s drivers for 13th Gen CPUs are newer. Ensure the driver supports your chipset (Intel RST driver version 19.x or later).
- During Windows installation, click Load Driver and point to the folder containing the extracted driver files.
- If you uncheck "Hide Drivers", ensure you select a driver matching your hardware ID (e.g., 09AB or 467F).
Clean the NVMe Drive and Partition
- Use the command prompt from the Windows installation environment:
- Press Shift + F10 to open CMD.
- Run the following commands:
diskpart
list disk
select disk X (replace X with the disk number of your NVMe)
clean
exit
- This removes all partitions, making the drive ready for installation.

Check Firmware Updates
- Ensure your NVMe SSD and motherboard firmware are updated. Manufacturers often release updates to resolve compatibility issues.
Verify Device Manager and BIOS Detection
- Boot from your Windows To Go (WTGo) environment.
- Open Device Manager → Check Storage Controllers for any Intel VMD or RST entries.
- If missing:
- Install the RST driver manually through the Intel installer (SetupRST.exe).
- Restart the laptop and recheck Device Manager.
Alternative Installation Mode
- If RST continues to fail, consider switching the BIOS SATA Mode to AHCI (if applicable) and disable VMD temporarily. This will bypass the need for the RST driver during installation. After installation:
- Re-enable VMD in the BIOS.
- Install RST drivers from within Windows.
Use an ISO with Integrated RST Drivers
- Create a custom Windows 11 installation ISO with pre-integrated RST drivers using tools like NTLite or DISM++.
- This ensures the drivers load automatically during installation.
Try Different USB Ports
- Use a different USB port (preferably a USB 2.0 port) for the installation media and driver files.
Reset the BIOS
- If the issue persists, reset the BIOS to factory defaults and reconfigure storage settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
