HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec1052ax

My laptop suddenly stopped recognising the ram in slot 2, i had 2 8gb ram sticks in dual channel mode but yesterday it stopped working suddeny, i thought the ram died but after further testing it appears as if the slot 2 itself is not working properly, Whats more confusing is the fact that CPU-Z does recognise the both slots and ram modules normally but the ram is not working, it appears to be a board issue but i need some help with it.

I have 2*8gb ddr4 3200mhz cl22 ram sticks, the stock one is by Micron and the other one by ADATA.

Did the problem occur after you put the 2nd stick in?

An easy way to find what memory you have is to run the wmic app from the windows command prompt. Bring up the window 'cmd' prompt and enter the first line to set what memory you have. The second line may give the maximum memory possible based on the chipset. The number of memory sockets limit what can be added.

wmic memorychip get devicelocator, capacity, speed, MemoryType, formfactor, partnumber, manufacturer
wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx

Should look something like the following.

wmic-x299

Please copy and post the results.  Possibly the BIOS sees all the memory but windows only uses half of it if there is an incompatibility

No, i have been using the laptop in the same configuration since late 2021, I have had many system freezes that needed me to hard shut down the laptop and 4-5 BSOD since then but this is the first time that the ram in slot is not being detected. I tried to boot the laptop with just 1 ram stick, but the laptop only boots if the ram is in slot 1, if i try to boot in slot 2 only the power indicator and the HDD spin but the laptop is stuck on black screen.
i tried what you asked and here is the result, no luck it still only shows one ram but before it used to detect both.

Now the intresting part, both CPU-Z and HWiNFO64 detect the rams in dual channel:
Here you can see it detects the Micron ram in slot 2.Here you can see it detects the Micron ram in slot 2.
Another thing i wanted to add was that even though "Hwinfo" detects the ram but if i go specifically to the "System Bios Dmi" section (ScreenShot below) it only partially recognises the ram like only the presence of the ram and nothing else and that makes me wonder if somehow  the bios is corrupted, although i had not installed any updates to bios in a long time before this issue, i did install a bios update after this issue but still no luck.Screenshot 2024-04-05 173439.png
Also, here is a screen shot of Task manager with the other 2 apps showing the amount of memory.

WMIC shows 8gb of memory (8,589,934,592) but fails to identify the memory which is unusual but possibly a win 10 problem

wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx

shows memory in KiloBytes (33554432) which is inconsistent with the memory size provide earlier

Win11, on my system, shows Bytes instead of kbytes so maximum capacity should be

34,359,738,368  or 32gb

Either the memory is going bad or the socket or there is debris in the socket

The MTA4ATF1G64HZ-3G2E2 is an 8gb stick that is organized 1Rx16

Pull the chips and use an Air Duster to clean out the sockets.  Clean the gold edges of the memory sticks.  if you use an eraser be sure the debris from the eraser does not stick to the chips.

Is the other chip also a MTA4ATF1G64HZ-3G2E2

If not, make sure it is 1Rx16

If you put the "good chip" into the second socket and leave the first socket empty does the system boot?

If it boots what does the following show

wmic memorychip get devicelocator, capacity, speed, MemoryType, formfactor, partnumber, manufacturer

wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx, MemoryDevices

If you upgraded BIOS possibly new memory timings got in and one of the chips is no longer compatible.

If you have XMP feature in bios it might have been removed .  Some Omen systems have had this happen.

I am using the latest version of windows 11 and i have been using both those ram modules for over 2 years so there should'nt be a sudden compatibility issue with the ram, my laptop has always showed the max capacity and the ram size in this way i don't know why maybe it is a BIOS issue. I only updated the bios after slot 2 issue occured. Both memory modules work and boot the laptop in slot 1 and both the rams and the slot 2 are clean and even the socket-board joints are all good but still neither of the rams can't boot the laptop in slot 2. I don't understand if there is a slot or board issue then how is the memory being partially detected by the softwares or even the BIOS? I did what you asked and i swapped the ram modules, the previous CMD screen shot was of the ADATA memory, so here is a CMD screen shot of the Micron ram in slot 1:

Even the BIOS or OS here are detecting 2 memory devices.

Yea, there is a problem with the slot.  You could inspect the socket with a magnifier and light and possibly see some debris or corrosion.

There is something string going on as the part number is now shown by the WMIC command.  Clearly there is a difference if the part number for one stick of memory is shown but the other is not.

The only thing I can think of is to go into the BIOS and on each page press the function key sets the default.

I not know if you have run the Ryzen Master but I have read where it has caused problems.
