HP ENVY x360 - 15-bp180nz
Linux

Hello everybody, I'm facing this problem since always and I don't know what to do since I already updated BIOS to latest version (F.42). As stated in title, sometimes PC doesn't start and after a couple of seconds I get an error message which says:

The CMOS checksum is invalid. The CMOS will be reset to the default configuration and will be rebooted. Please check your Setup options to see if they change.

CMOS Reset (502)
ENTER - Reboot the system

Then after reboot it works again as usual. This happens just randomly, let's say one time every 1-2 months. I still have guarantee on it but since I use it for work, I would try to fix the problem by myself instead of sending it to support.

Any advice?

Hi

I would suspect the CMOS/RTC battery/cell myself, especially as there may not be one. arf arf.

Worst case scenario is a faulty BIOS chip.

But if it has no battery then shouldn't I get that error each time I unplug it from power?

It does I believe, use the main battery, but if the cmos chip is faulty then there is no practicable cure.

While there may be no RTC/CMOS battery there can be a small capacitor.  But I have to say...

Sorry I don't have a solution.
