I also have this same problem, I have attempted numerous reboots, and searched the aforementioned links from the post previous to no avail.

@Ceredathor

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, notebook turns on but it does not boot to desktop,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

What is the operating system on PC?

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

Once I have the information, I'll help you further with troubleshooting steps 🙂

Keep me posted,

Cheers 🙂

Product number X0H86UA#ABA
MODEL 15-ay041wm
OS Windows 10 (64-bit)

I tried resetting the bios but never got passed a black screen that tells me the input for what i pressed at startup
Ex. Esc....pause startup
F11 system recovery
F10 bios setup options

It was working fine about a week ago when it instantly shut down and wouldn't boot back up.

I didn't install any new programs, and have been looking for answers online, I've tried powering off, (and holding the button for 15 seconds to complete the discharge) removing the battery completely and repeating the discharge remove. Ive tried entering into the bios menu, doing a system recovery, and s startup check.

@Ceredathor

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

BIOS default

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

If the computer restarts normally and the error message does not display, you are done. If the error message displays proceed to the next step.

Perform System Test:

  • Press the Power button to turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second, until you see HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • From the UEFI main menu, click System Tests, then click Quick Test.
  • Click Run once.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component are shown on the screen. The test can take up to 15 minutes.
  • If no system component failed, please go back to main menu and Exit from the screen
  • If a component fails a test, write down the information so you have it available when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu.

Let me know how this goes,

Good Luck 🙂
