Hi @HarleyJurg3

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you are seeing the message "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device" on the screen. This typically means the system is unable to detect a bootable operating system or the primary storage drive during startup.

To help isolate the issue, could you please confirm the following:

  • What is the exact HP model of the device?
  • Did the issue start after a Windows update, BIOS update, hardware change, or unexpected shutdown?
  • Are you able to access the Startup Menu (F9/F10) during startup?
  • Does the SSD/HDD appear in the BIOS under Storage Information?
  • Have you run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics storage test, and if so, did it report any failure ID?

If possible, please share a photo of the error screen and let us know whether the system was functioning normally before this issue occurred. This information will help determine whether the cause is related to the boot order, storage drive detection, or a potential drive failure.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
