HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cr0000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

I recently upgraded the BIOS from F32 to F33 as it was suggested. However the new upgrade disabled a function that I had set (Start Laptop when open Lid) It did it well with F32 but not with F33. I tried to go back but it would not let me do it.

Is there a way to enable that function again???

Hi @Grizzly1505,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to assist you.

The issue with the lid-open feature being disabled after updating the BIOS from F32 to F33 on your HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cr0000 is likely related to changes in the default BIOS settings or features introduced in the new version. Here's what you can do to address this:

1. Check BIOS Settings

  1. Enter BIOS Setup:
    • Power off the laptop.
    • Turn it on and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
    • Select F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. Find Lid-Open Functionality:
    • Look for options like "Power on when lid opens" or similar under the Power Management or Advanced tabs.
    • Ensure the setting is enabled.
  3. Save and Exit:
    • Save changes and exit the BIOS (usually with F10).

2. Roll Back to F32 (if settings are unavailable in F33)

If the lid-open function is critical and the rollback is blocked:

  1. Check HP's Support Documentation:
    • Confirm whether downgrading the BIOS is officially supported for your model.
    • Go to HP's support site and search for BIOS recovery tools specific to your laptop.
  2. Use BIOS Recovery Tools:
    • Use the HP BIOS Recovery Tool:
      • Power off the laptop.
      • Hold Windows + B (or Windows + V on some models) and press the power button for 2-3 seconds.
      • Release the power button but continue holding the keys until the BIOS recovery screen appears.
    • Follow the instructions to recover the previous version of the BIOS (F32).
  3. Advanced Tools:
    • If the rollback fails due to restrictions, use the HP BIOS Configuration Utility (BCU) to attempt a forced downgrade.

3. Update Drivers and HP Software

  1. HP Support Assistant:
    • Open HP Support Assistant and check for updates for drivers or settings that may restore the feature.
  2. Windows Power Settings:
    • Sometimes the lid-open functionality is controlled by Windows. Check:
      • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
      • Verify if any settings related to the lid or power are affected.

4. Perform a microsoft restore

Kindly refer to the steps on this link to perform system restore on your laptop and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

1. I checked the BIOS settings and that option is no longer available. The only way this feature will work is when the laptop is in hibernation, not from a shutdown state.

2. a Roll back does not seem to be possible as I have tried the BIOS recovery. It showed a message that a recovery is in progress and it can take several minutes and cause several restarts (Something like that). After that I got a message that the BIOS has been recovered but it still is on F33.

I am not going to use the forced downgrade now as this laptop is my main computer and I can't have anything going wrong. Maybe at a later date. For now I am going to use hibernation as a solution.

According to the Support assistant my drivers are all up to date...

Thanks for your help anyway
