HP Notebook - 15-af157na (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I created a Recovery USB Flash Drive but when I try to use it the normal boot process runs instead of BIOS Recovery.

I held down Windows +b (and tried windows + v ) pressed the power button which I released after 5 seconds and kept windows + b pressed but no go. I note in the instructions that this could indicate an hard disk problem. I have replaced the hard disk in the past and it does not have any recovery partitions.

Is there another tool I can use to make a self booting Recovery USB Flash Drive?

Is there any way to restore the recovery partition (if what I need is in there)?

Hi @g7ivp,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble recovering the BIOS on an HP Notebook using the "Windows + B" or "Windows + V" key combination, there are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Check Key Combination: First, make sure you are pressing the correct key combination. On some HP laptops, the key combination for BIOS recovery might be different. It's usually "Windows + B" or "Windows + V," but it could vary. Check your laptop's manual or HP's official support documentation for the correct key combination.
  • Power Cycle: Turn off your laptop completely and unplug it from any power source. Then, press and hold the key combination ("Windows + B" or "Windows + V") and while holding it down, press the power button. Keep holding the key combination until the laptop's screen lights up or you see any signs of BIOS recovery.
  • Use a USB Drive: If the key combination method isn't working, you might need to use a USB drive with a specific BIOS recovery file. Visit HP's official support website, enter your laptop's model number, and look for the BIOS recovery files and instructions for your specific model.
  • Hardware Issue: If your laptop is still under warranty, and if none of the above steps work, it's possible that there might be a hardware issue preventing the BIOS recovery process. In this case.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The BIOS Recovery flash drive I created is not bootable and cycling the power and  "Windows + B" or "Windows + V," do not work!

Is there a way of creating a bootable USB flash drive that will update the BIOS?
