I have an HP Omen 45L that came with a 512 GB SSD C:/ drive. When it started throwing SMART warnings, I installed a new 1 Tb SSD in the second connector and cloned the failing drive onto it. Choosing it as a boot selection, I booted from it, and things worked as they should. So, I moved that new device to the top of the boot order list. What I would like to do is remove the old SSD from the boot order, and so avoid having to remove the graphics card in order to physically remove the original device. Is there a way to remove that old device from the boot order list, and if so, how should I do it? I tried several things, such as deleting the entry, but they did not work. Any suggestions are welcome., and thanks in advance.

Hi @KinnisonGrey,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To remove the old SSD from the boot order on your HP Omen 45L, you can follow these steps:

Restart Your Computer: Turn on your computer and immediately start pressing the F10 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. The timing can be tricky, so if you don't enter the BIOS on your first attempt, restart the computer again and press F10 more promptly.

Access the Boot Menu: Once in the BIOS setup, navigate to the "Boot" tab using the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Adjust Boot Order:

  • Use the arrow keys to highlight the old SSD in the boot order list.

  • You may find options to change the priority or remove the device from the boot list. The specific option may be named "Exclude," "Remove," or you might need to use a specific key (like DEL or D) to exclude it. Refer to instructions on the screen for precise key indications.

Save and Exit:

  • After making the changes, navigate to the "Exit" tab or look for an option to "Save and Exit."
  • Confirm the changes when prompted, usually it's saved by pressing F10.

Reboot: The system will restart. Ensure it boots from the new SSD. If everything works fine, the old SSD should no longer prompt as a boot option.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
