Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As loads of the HP applications and services were causing severe issues (performance, security and privacy threats, and incompatibility with Sophos Antivir) and deactivating and uninstalling the software did not suffice (after an update it would activate itself again), the best and only solution was to remove everything and clean install the laptop. The recent Bios Update includes (seemingly even if the customer decides not to use it) a Splash Screen with the Wolf Security logo. In the release info it's noted as "Update splash screen with Protected by Sure Start bitmaps.".

Now everytime the laptop boots, the  "Protected by Wolf Security" Logo is displayed. As this displays a very unprofessional manner to my clients (and they know about the issues with Wolf Security) I would like to remove this logo.

- There are no options in the Uefi/Bios Settings

- I also could not find anything accessing the Efi Partition

- No GUI in msconfig is only for the Windows Boot logo

How can I remove the logo, without having to build and flash an own custom firmware update?

I don't believe that you find the LOGO in the EFI partition.

but the access is easy:

C:\windows\system32> (cmd admin) type in these DOS commands:

mountvol B: /s

B:

dir

cd EFI

dir

do you see an HP folder? If yes

cd HP

dir

(repeat the steps cd X and dir till you are in the right folder

The other way is to use diskpart and assign a drive letter to your EFI-Partition

Then use Taskmanager and navigate&open the Efi -folder

I see I did not write very understandable, sorry. I meant, that I did not find anything on the Efi Partition which seemed to have accessed the splash screen as a logo (I did access it already by the same method you described and searched in the HP folder). I did not find any bitmap file (also displaying hidden objects).  I read in an older post by HP that it can be found there.

Thank you though! 🙂

Your BIOS update probably came with an SPxxxx file.

You can look in the C:\SWSetup folder and try to find the bitmap logo there. I don't think that it is in the *.bin file

Delete the bitmap file and reflash the BIOS

I would give it a chance.

thanks, I will give it a try. It is not directly in the folder, but I will try and look into how to open a .bin file and will post here if it worked 🙂

did not work. I will just ignore it and will stop being a costumer of HP. It is getting worse and worse with the bloatware anyways, but this has been a new dimension. Thank you anyway though for you advice and help!
