The message "Operation pending" is AFAICT a Linux OS problem.
I have seen this myself when taking a flash drive from a windows system (where I downloaded an AMD ubuntu driver) and tried copying the driver to a Ubuntu system. Ubuntu sees something wrong on the windows formatted flash and generates that error message. The flash needs to be formatted so that linux and windows can both work. Usually windows had not properly closed one or more files on the flash or may not have finished indexing the flash drive.
If the above is the case you might want to inquire over at askubuntu.com
