Well they dont seem to be paying attention. I am planning to send this article to a couple of tech review and tech news websites. I will even try emailing it to BBC and NBC.  This thread I beleive received the highest number of attendance in recent days with 157 replies. Even microsoft forums are flooded with same issue. We dont expect a solution right away. We just want to see a statement that they get there is a problem and they are working on it.  This is my first HP laptop and I have had many other problems with it too.  But so far they have done well to deal with the problems but if there is no reply in couple of weeks, I will buy a new laptop as soon as this one is unusable which with all the hard shutdowns that I have been doing , is probably going to be soon.

I was thinking the same... perhaps contact the BBC or even the Daily Mail, they would love a story like this! Maybe then the Gods of HP might wake up and actually do something!

Well I knew it was going to be too good to be true! I'm back to crashing again. This needs an official fix. Not just us trying out god knows what in this forum...

I have fired an email off to the BBC News and the Daily Mail, maybe getting this in the press would force HP to actually do something!

Just went through and tried updating my drivers - again - and still no luck. I used the power profile from earlier in this thread to keep the laptop from going to sleep - and crashing - during the day when I'm working, but that's not a long term solution. Especially since trying to shut it down or put it into sleep mode at the end of a full day of work is still giving me the black screen of unresponsiveness and forcing a hard shut down. Come on HP! I haven't owned another brand of computer for 10 years, and this is my 4th or 5th from you. Don't make me regret my loyalty all these years!

so with the display driver being "updated" initially when i opened the lid on my laptop this morning it was froze up. so i did what everyone else did hard rebooted. after that i reset the plan defaults on balanced. so i tweaked the hibernate settings to off as a test and pci power management to OFF

with the power button set to sleep when plugged in and on battery when pressed and when i close the lid on battery or plugged in on to sleep as well and setting my sleep timer to 1 min and hitting sleep from the power menu of windows. after 1 min my laptop power button started to flash like it did before the upgrade and when i opened the lid it responded normally.  So it appears that even when the lid is closed it doesn't go to full sleep mode until the timer elapses passing the min threshold of time before it actually sleeps. not saying its not a problem  with hp because it is but for now on driver ending in 4248 for intel display it seems to be ok

The problem is intermittent so it's really hard to try and say what the cause is, but I think we can try all the things we like on here and not get any further forward. If anything we could just end up making things worse. What we need is an official fix from HP, or at least a response!

I've just been on chat to someone (who seemed like the slowest typist in the world), and he wanted to take control of my laptop which I didn't feel too comfortable about. I don't like the idea of someone messing around with the settings without me seeing what's being changed.

I agree Lee.  I'm no computer expert and altering all of these other settings, drivers/BIOS, etc.. I feel like I'll mess something else up.  I will just have to wait for an update specific fix. No telling how long that will be.

I forgot to post my conversation with HPSupport on twitter yesterday. I think you can see all the tweets.

So, i tried something. First doing a restart, then shutdown. It works! I dont know why, but it works. Its going to add some extra time, but in that way you are not going to use the force shutdown(i dont really like to force shutdown my laptop).
