Click on Start-> Run-> Type msinfo32 and hit enter.

A new window will open and it will show BIOS Version/Date. Out of the two you see on the website, download the one that looks similar to your current one.

But is that only for 32 bit proccesors, or does it work for both

Never mind, I'm just not gonna mess around with my drivers and wait for a standard fix

I downloaded the Bios for windows 8.1, and my laptop shuts down and is able to come out of sleep mode now.

Yes, but how long has it been? I've tried all sorts of different things, and each time it seems to fix the issue for most of the day, but the problem just returns.

Exact same issue for Hp Pavillion p001-tx.

Interestingly, I had a similar issue when I purchased this notebook one year ago. Either the notebook won't go to sleep or the laptop screen would not start after waking up from sleep or hibernate mode. The issue was with the BIOS version so the service support person who came to my place simply updated it and everything was fine thereafter.

So I guess no matter how many tricks you try, unless HP releases the fixed BIOS version for your device, the issue cannot be resolved. :Crying:

The whole excitement of getting Windows 10 has evaporated and all that has remained behind is frustration. Sheer frustration.

i'm using the latest BIOS for windows 8.1 for my laptop, there's no BIOS update for windows 10 .

The problem still exist.

That's the whole point. We are still using BIOS designed for Win 8.1. Why they haven't released a BIOS for Windows 10 is beyond my understanding. The whole motherboard could crash if even one critical incompatibility issue arises. All the drivers apart, at least the BIOS update should have been released before July 29th.

just want to chime in having the same problem on two HP Envy laptops.

Tried

- stopping fast shutdown

- dropping USB devices first

- shortcut shutdown -s

- installing first big Windows 10 update

- checking all other updates

all to no avail ...

😞

I won't go back to Windows 8.1, so I've created a bootable Linux usb. When I want to shut down my computer while running Windows 10, I go to the settings, update and restore, system restore reboot with advanced options, start with device, usb device and I start the Linux usb. It's ubuntu so I can try it without making modifications to my device. When ubuntu is started I shut down the OS (right above corner) and the pc shuts down correctly. It's a weird thing to do, but I don't have to press the power butten for 5 seconds anymore... Make sure that your hard drive with windows 10 is the first boot device, so when you boot and the usb is still present you boot Windows 10 and not the usb.
