You're lucky then, I also have the F42 bios (even before first upgrading to windows 10, so I listened to HP) and the problem is still present.

I've been following this thread for several days now and I thought it might be helpful to give you my experience. I have an HP Pavillion 17 Notebook PC.

  • I upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1on day 1 and had all the problems reported here
  • I found this thread and tried what was being suggested, but nothing worked permanently
  • I got fed up with the situation and went back to 8.1 - a relatively quick and painless process
  • Did an HP Update and got a message from HP entitled something like "Get ready for Windows 10"
  • In the message it said make sure you do updates of Windows and HP software and the BIOS before proceeding
  • I discovered my BIOS was not the latest so I updated to that one - F.42-03/18/2015.
  • After a while, I plucked up courage and upgraded to Windows 10 again.
  • I did this a couple of days ago and this time everything is fine

Yes, I see this now. Understand that people have been posting dozens of "solutions" that didn't actually work.

So- how did you upgrade to 10 the second time?

I'm back at 8.1 now, about to upgrade the bios to f.42

Edit: Oh and the laptop still goes to sleep/hibernates without any issues.

My model have 2 BIOS for windows 8.1

F.42 Rev.A - Jul 24, 2015 and F.09 Rev.A - Jul 9, 2015

Which one should I use?

My current BIOS is F.09.

I leave it to this BIOS because the site say that this BIOS is for Intel Processors (which is my processor) rather than F.42

Can i use the F.42 for my intel processor?

Right.  The "solution" does not work for everyone for whatever reason.

...and it really is absurd to think that reversion and reinstalling Win10 is THE solution, especially for those who verified their systems were up to date.  By the way, my BIOS was current the day I went to Win10. No joy here either.

I cannot argue with those who have had success doing a revert/reinstall and I am glad it apparently worked for them.  It appears, however, that MOST people who have done so have had no success or worse, the inability to get to the 8.1 desktop.

or the equivalent if you're not in the UK.

Also the "Get Windows 10" icon reappeared in the taskbasr, but that didn't sem to work as it should.

Yes, you upgrade to F.42

I've reverted back to 8.1, upgraded to F.42. My 8.1 is now a mess, I get errors about missing system files and couldn't install the HP Support software. Am going to try going back to 10 next

Please check the details about the update. The dates on the detail pages are correct. The dates that are displayed next to the download button in the list are NOT correct!

Terrific! I did a System Recovery to Windows 8.1 which took an hour and from the past 2 and a half hours, I'm struggling with Windows Update. The thing just won't work no matter what I do. It detects the updates but cannot download them. I'm at the peak of my frustration with microsoft and feel like smashing the notebook on the floor!!

Enough with this nonsense. First they lure you, then they trick you. Then you are left with nothing. Absolutely nobody. I'm done with Hp and Microsoft both. Will buy a Mac or use Linux next time. 😞

So I have the F42 version of the BIOS, but in the description it says: contains original BIOS version. What's that supposed to mean? Did they upgrade everything until the final release and then 'oh now we'll just release an update with the hightest number (F42) and put the first BIOS image in it?

Just relax man, it'll be solved. Do you think doesn't have any issues? Or do you think that Linux is bug-free and stable and all? Keep calm and wait patiently. There are enough people who said that a fix from HP or Microsoft will be needed. Don't waste any more time, it will be all right. :catwink:
